CELS has created a process of ordering and classifying the archive.  This section will describe the tools used in the CELS archive.

CELS Institutional Management
Documents produced by CELS have a description of the activities. It includes: Correspondence 1979-1998, Internal Communication 1978 and 1998, Communications, CELS Actions, financial projects, administration and accounting, CELS Publications, and documents of the founders.  View description.

Newspapers Publications
The articles have been extracted from newspaper publications, mainly national newspapers, from 1974 to 1996.  They are ordered according to the four following criteria:

Newspaper Articles 1974-1996: Articles from the main national and exterior media sources, selected because of their link to human rights in Argentina.

Selections from the Prensa: Relevant information regarding to a specific theme. View inventory: Subjects linked to the dictatorship, Subjects not linked to the dictatorship.

Interior Newspapers 2000-2002: Articles from the main provincial media sources selected for their ties to the human rights situation in Argentina.

Presence of CELS in the Media: Articles from the main national media sources about actions taken by CELS.

Legal Documents
Documents produced in the defense and for the legal assistance of the victims.  They are ordered according to the four following criteria:

Defense and legal assistance for the crimes from the last military dictatorship: Legal documents produced by CELS litigation during the last dictatorship (Habeas Corpus, Terms of War and deprivations of liberty, clandestine burials in cemetaries etc.), from the 80s until the sanction of the leyes de impunidad of 1986 and 1987 and causes transmitted by the economic reparation.

Defense and legal assistance for human rights violations committed during the democracy: Legal documents produced by CELS in cases about political violence, immigrants, immigration, access to housing etc.

Documents and Complaints about the Terrorism of the State
Documents produced and or compiled by CELS with the objective of reliably testing the methodology of the system of repression through legal actions and national and international complaints.  Organized according to the following four criteria:

Testimony: Testimony of family, survivors of the detention center, and other testimony of victims of terrorism of the state, presented before CELS and other organizations and government agencies, recompiled in the period between 1979-1985, although there are exceptions of incorporated documents after this time period.

Victims and complaints: Diverse documents relating to the repressed victims.  Includes correspondences, complaints, newspaper compilations, lists produced by CELS and other organizations, material from the Comisión Técnica and CONADEP.

Historical Legislation: Relevant legislation related to the political repression dictated by the military junta: laws, decrees, resolutions, and acts.

Those responsible for the terrorism of the state: Information compiled about members of the police and armed forces, legal and political officials, economic and religious groups that worked for the last military dictatorship.

Thematic Documentation
Documents produced or compiled by CELS.  The folders are composed of various materials (articles, cards, newspapers etc.) about the same subject. View Inventory.

Materials from Other Organizations
Edited documents and work produced by other human rights organizations or national/international groups (mainly from the Cono Sur countries). Included are: communications, newsletters, memos, internal notes from the organization, journals, and various activities. View Inventory.
