UBA-CELS Legal Clinic

Since its founding in 1995, the CELS-University of Buenos Aires (UBA) legal clinic has been working in the defense of human rights, offering students of the UBA Law School the option to complete an obligatory professional practice course as part of the requirements toward the law degree.

The CELS Legal Clinic shares a goal with other national and regional public interest law clinics to train lawyers who appreciate the legal needs of the population at large, and who are committed to use the law as a means to strengthen democratic institutions and to forge a more just and equitable society.

Students attend to the legal needs of community members and actively participate in the work of CELS under the supervision of two UBA law professors and CELS members.

Over the course of its existence, the CELS Legal Clinic has become a key resource for training human rights lawyers. Many former students currently hold positions in local and national NGOs, the United Nations and various government agencies.
