From head to toe: the criminal use of less lethal weapons in social protests in Latin America

The increasing use of less lethal weapons by police and security forces leads to situations of increasing state violence. At the same time, the possibility of discussing how and when they can be used seems to be blocked.

The presence of protesters on the streets is essential to not see their rights crushed by extractivism, market extremism, racism and sexism.

The systematic practice of firing projectiles into demonstrators’ faces, which is being recorded throughout the continent, is the clearest expression of the abuse of this type of weaponry.
